Artist's Statement

I am a mixed media artist, with a focus on sculpture and art rooted in the foundation of fashion. My art explores the malleability of gender, the concept of armor as both protection and camouflage, and the question of where art and craft intersect.

The commonality through all my work is an emphasis on texture, incorporating both implied textures and tactile ones, often layering multiple textures. Choosing delicate materials and traditionally feminine material like lace and vintage table linens I create masculine forms such as armor, highlighting both the ways armor is often purely ornamental and that its protection is an illusion. I use traditional dressmaking techniques and materials, as well as printmaking and collage. Fundamentally my practice is an exercise in creating form to emotion.
